Apply for the Promise Scholarship

1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

All applicants must submit a completed 2022-23 FAFSA by the March 1, 2022, deadline to be eligible. A student’s FAFSA must meet the conditions for processing by the March 1 deadline.

The 2022-23 FAFSA becomes available October 1, 2021.

2. Promise Application

The 2022-2023 Promise Application opens October 1, 2021. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2022.

You must create a West Virginia Student Aid Management (WVSAM) Account to submit your application.

Summer Promise Application

The Summer Promise application opens March 15 and has a May 15 priority deadline. Applications may be submitted after May 15 until the final June 15 deadline.

Promise Application Timeline

OCTOBER 1, 2021

  • The 2022-23 FAFSA opens.
  • The Promise application opens.

MARCH 1, 2022: Promise Application and FAFSA Filing Deadline

  • Students must complete the Promise Scholarship Application by March 1, 2022.
  • To be considered for the Promise Scholarship, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be received by the Federal Student Aid Processing Center on or before March 1, 2022, and meet the conditions for processing.
  • Students who have not met the GPA and/or test score requirements, can qualify after March 1, but must submit an application and FAFSA by the March 1 deadline.

APRIL / MAY 2022
Initial award notifications are sent to Promise Scholars by their preferred method of contact, indicated on WVSAM account creation.

JUNE 2022: SAT
Last date to take the SAT to establish scholarship eligibility. Scores will not be accepted for any SAT taken after June 2022.

JULY 2022: ACT
Last date to take the ACT (national test only) to establish scholarship eligibility. Scores will not be accepted for any ACT taken after July 2022.
